How Seniors Navigate Through the Pandemic

While the COVID-19 pandemic has affected all people from different walks of life, the challenges for some socio-economic groups were very tough, especially for the elder and senior population.

At MarketPro Homebuyers, it has always been our desire to serve the elder population. So, we thought it best to zoom in on the current state of the elder sector, particularly on how the pandemic has affected them and how they’re bouncing back.

How Seniors Navigate Through the Pandemic

MarketPro Homebuyers has consistently worked with elder homeowners and their families to ensure the easiest transition possible from their house to assisted living or another home arrangement. In general, it has been a rough year and a half for the elder population due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

An Unfortunate Fact: Higher Risk of COVID-19 among the Elderly

The senior population are more likely to have a weak immune system and pre-existing conditions that are known to raise the risk of contracting severe COVID-19. In a data released by the World Health Organization in April 2020, more than 95% of COVID-19 related deaths were recorded among 60 years old and above.

A Disruption in Routine: Seniors and Isolation

Like everyone else, the lockdown forced the senior population to change their routines and isolate themselves in their homes to prevent contracting the coronavirus disease. As a result, safe access to basic needs such as food, medicine and healthcare has been limited. This also took a toll on our elder population’s mental health. According to a healthcare provider HealthPRO Heritage, they started to see an increase in the occurrence of pressure ulcers, depression, anxiety and other behavioral issues among seniors during the pandemic.

A Renewed Hope: How Seniors Cope with the Pandemic

It’s not all bad news for the elder population. As the pandemic caused disruptions in routine, our seniors learned to adapt and many were seeing them participate in closing the digital divide. Some were learning to use online messaging and video chatting apps, while some discovered the beauty of telemedicine and online buying. But to top it all, the development of vaccines have given the elderly population, and the world in general, a renewed hope that someday, somehow, we’ll be able to go back to the normal life that we’re used to.

Our continued commitment to elder population

At MarketPro Homebuyers, we know that the little steps we take can go a long way. As part of helping the senior population bounce back, we continue to make the process of moving and selling a home as seamless and timely as possible. Our efforts enable seniors and their families to focus on getting the care they need especially during tough times rather than worry about selling their house to a traditional buyer, which comes with extra processes, costs, and fees. We believe that the pandemic should not be a hindrance to selling your home or transitioning to a new home.
